HDI-Gerling Industrie Versicherung AG (HG-I) is a direct and internationally operating primary non- life/ industrial insurance company. HG-I is headquartered in Hannover/ Germany and licensed by the German Federal Authority for Financial Services Supervision (BaFin). HG-I  supports its clients from 11 locations across Germany with bespoke solutions optimally attuned to the needs of its customers. Abroad, HG-I is active in more than 130 countries through 28 own foreign subsidiaries and/ or branches plus network partners so that HG-I is in a position to provide its clients with insurance coverage and associated services on a world-wide scale. The range of products and services extends from liability, motor, accident, fire and property insurance to marine, special lines and engineering covers.

The HDI-Gerling brand came into being in 2006 through a marriage of the two long-established HDI and Gerling brands – each of which can draw on more than 100 years of experience. HDI Insurance was founded on December 7, 1903 as mutual insurance association. Gerling Insurance has been established by the entrepreneuer Robert Gerling in 1904 when he set up – at the age of 26 – the insurance agency “Bureau für Versicherungswesen Robert Gerling & Co mbH” in Cologne/ Germany.

HG-I is part of the Talanx Group. The Talanx Group operates as a multi- brand provider. The Group is headed by Talanx AG, based in Hannover/ Germany, which assumes the functions of a financial and management holding company.  The Talanx Group operates extremely successfully as a multi-brand provider in highly promising sectors of the insurance and financial services industry. The brands of the Talanx Group include HDI, HDI-Gerling, Hannover Re, one of the world's leading reinsurers, Targo Versicherungen, PB, Neue Leben and the financial services provider AmpegaGerling. With a gross written premium of more than € 22 billion in 2010, the Talanx Group is the third-largest insurance group in Germany and the eleventh-largest in Europe. The shares of Talanx AG are held by a mutual insurance association, HDI Haftpflichtverband der Deutschen Industrie (Versicherungsverein auf Gegenseitigkeit), the germ cell of HDI Insurance as founded back in December 1903.

The rating agency Standard & Poor's has given HG-I a financial strength rating of A+ (Stable). A.M. Best did recently confirm a financial strength rating for HG-I of A (Excellent).
