1.    The ASEAN Economic Community and the Comprehensive and Progressive Trans Pacific Partnership Agreement – CPTPP: What’s in for German investors?
Dr. Oliver Massmann, Director of Duane Morris Vietnam LLC/ GBA Board Member

Dr. Oliver Massmann is an International Attorney at Law and a Financial Accountant and Auditor. Dr. Oliver Massmann received his PhD with Major in International Business Law from the European Global School in Paris. Dr. Massmann practices in the area of corporate international taxation and on power/water projects, matters related to oil and gas companies and telecoms, privatization and equitization, mergers and acquisitions, and general commercial matters for multinational clients in relation to investment and doing business in Vietnam. He is the only foreign lawyer as Member to the Supervisory Board of Petro Vietnam Insurance Corporation, Vietnam's largest industrial insurer. Dr. Massmann is currently working on several investment projects as well as taxation matters and advising the Ministry of Electrical Power on building the power generation infrastructure in Myanmar.

2.    From old generation to new generation FTAs of Vietnam: A comparison between ASEAN FTAs and CPTPP
Ms. Phung Thi Lan Phuong, Manager of FTA Department, WTO and International Trade Center (WITC)

The WTO and International Trade Center (WITC) is an unit of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), providing legal supports for Vietnam businesses on international trade issues. The WITC’s mission is to improve the awareness, capacity and voice of the Vietnam business community in the negotiation and/or implementation of WTO, FTAs and other trade agreements of Vietnam, so that they could grasp at benefits and overcome challenges therefrom.
In this presentation Ms. Phuong will provide a summary of main contents and the implementation of current FTAs of ASEAN, including ASEAN – China FTA (ACFTA), ASEAN – Korean FTA (AKFTA), ASEAN – Japan Comprehensive Economic Partnership (AJCEP), ASEAN – India FTA (AIFTA) and ASEAN – Australia/New Zealand FTA (AANZFTA). Then Ms. Phuong will give a short introduction on the ongoing RCEP negotiations and reasons why ASEAN countries and their 6 trading partners have pursued this agreement.

3.    Taking advantage of FTAs through Rules of Origin: making comparison among FTAs joined by Viet Nam
Ms. Bui Kim Thuy, Country Representative, US-ASEAN Business Council Viet Nam

Thuy served as the Deputy Director of the Agency for Foreign Trade in Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) for the previous 10 years (2008 - 2018), where she handled FTA negotiations and rule-of-origin related issues. She has been a key speaker in a series of seminars and workshops for trade-related agencies and the business community. Before joining MOIT, she was a desk officer at the Office of the Vietnam National Assembly’s Department of External Affairs.
Thuy has two Masters of Public Management degrees, from the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy (National University of Singapore) and the Harvard Kennedy School (Harvard University), and holds a bachelor’s degree in International Economics from the Diplomatic Academy of Viet Nam, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
